You can. These are all open source. But here's what you're signing up for.
Complexity
ThingsBoard requires PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB or Cassandra for scale, Redis, and a properly configured MQTT broker. ChirpStack needs its own PostgreSQL, Redis, and MQTT broker with careful TLS setup. Node-RED needs correct process isolation. We set all of this up and keep it running.
Maintenance
ThingsBoard ships major releases with database migration scripts that can break running deployments. ChirpStack v4 introduced a completely new architecture from v3. Node-RED node compatibility varies across versions. One bad upgrade and your device data stops flowing.
Reliability
When your IoT platform goes down at 2 AM, sensor alerts stop firing, dashboards go dark, and device state is lost. Nobody notices until a factory line stops or a cold chain breach goes undetected. We monitor, back up, and fail over so that doesn't happen.
